In
1974, while the pastor of Grapeland Heights Baptist, a Southern Baptist
Church in Miami, Florida, Bob met Pastor Devil Legrand. They immediately
became friends and Devil invited Bob to come to Haiti to see his work.
In a few months Bob was landing on Haitian soil for the first time. This
was the first of many visits to minister in Haiti over the years, which
still continues until this day. Haiti has been an integral part of the
ministry of WORLDMISSION.
Devil ‘s name means the “Great Devil”. When he was born, his
grandfather, who was a witch doctor in mountains of Haiti chose that
name for him because he wanted him to become a great witch doctor. Devil
LeGrand in French, the official language of Haiti, means the “Grand
Devil”. But God had other plans for the Great Devil. The Lord sent a
little missionary lady from Canada to St. Michael, where Devil and his
family lived. Eventually the Lord used this lady in His Providence as an
instrument after sharing the Gospel with Devil to allow the Holy Spirit
to work a Work of Grace in the heart of the young prospective witch
doctor. When he became old enough, after finishing high school, Devil
went off to Jamaica to Jamaica Bible College. He completed his studies
there and received his degree. God sent him back to St Michael to
minister to his people.
WORLDMISSION has worked with Devil for 30 plus years. A picture of the
1200 seat Bethany Baptist Church building is shown on the right. Devil
was brought to the states time after time by WORLDMISSION and given the
opportunity to speak to church after church all over the country to
raise money to buy materials for the building. Many times He and Bob
would drive across a state together talking to pastors and churches.
Then Bob and others would bring work teams to Haiti to build the church.
It still stands strong today in St Michel glorifying God. Devil’s
children have begun to take up the slack in recent years. For the past
15 or so years Devil has been pastor Bethany Baptist in Little Haiti,
Miami after founding that church himself. A picture of the church is to
the right.
WORLDMISSION has taken many medical teams of doctors, dentists and
nurses to Haiti, as well as many construction teams to build clinics,
churches and homes over the years. There always has been spiritual
ministry and preaching services as well. If the Lord gives you a burden
to pray for and give financially to WORLDMISSION’S ministry in Haiti you
can give through our Pay Pal account. Please give as the Lord leads.
